Position Title:  Educational Technology Specialist

Department:  Student Services

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Supervisor:  Director of Technology

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: 

  • Milford, NE (homebase) - 1-2 days per week
  • Serving districts in Shickley & McCool Jct. up to 4 days per week for the 24-25 school year

Summary

The Educational Technology Specialist provides onsite technology support and management to school districts that contract with ESU 6 for technology services. Additionally, when available, the position will assist the ESU6 Technology Department to provide support to non contracted school districts and ESU 6 staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provides technology support and training for students and staff.
  • Manages and maintains all hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Coordinates technology purchases and vendor relations.
  • Ensures compliance with school policies and technology-related regulations.
  • Implements cybersecurity measures to protect school infrastructure and data.

Technical Support

  • Manages and maintains the school’s help desk system, tracking support tickets and ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs technology devices, including computers, tablets, interactive whiteboards, printers, and projectors.
  • Assists with the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of classroom technology, such as smartboards, audio-visual equipment, and other instructional tools.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and updates for operating systems, software applications, and networking equipment.


Documentation

  • Maintains detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and incident reports.
  • Develops clear, user-friendly manuals, guides, and knowledge base articles for staff and students, covering common troubleshooting steps, technology usage, and best practices.


Technology Infrastructure Management

  • Maintains and troubleshoots network systems (LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi).
  • Oversees server administration, backups, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Manages cloud-based services (e.g., Google Workspace for Education & Office 365).

System Integration & Support

  • Assists with the network integration and management of facility systems, including door access control, fire alarms, and HVAC systems.
  • Monitors and maintains surveillance camera systems to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Administers and troubleshoot phone systems, intercom, bells, and related communications hardware.

Asset and Inventory Management

  • Tracks and manages all technology equipment and software licensing and support renewals.
  • Oversees the inventory and tracking of all technology assets, ensuring accuracy and maintaining up-to-date records.
  • Plans for equipment upgrades and replacement cycles.


Cybersecurity, Data Privacy, & Regulations

  • Implements and enforces cybersecurity policies.
  • Monitors systems for security vulnerabilities and data breaches.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., CIPA, FERPA, COPPA).


Technology Planning and Implementation

  • Collaborates with school leadership to develop long-term technology plans.
  • Evaluates and recommends new technologies for enhancing learning and administrative processes.
  • Manages the implementation of educational technologies, ensuring alignment with instructional goals.


Work Schedule and Attendance Requirements

  • Works occasionally outside of office hours for emergency situations and routine maintenance.
  • Regular and dependable attendance on location is an essential function of this position.

  • Education and/or Experience 
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
    • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. 
    • Experience in educational technology is preferred.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    • Valid Nebraska driver's license required
    • Industry certificates preferred but not required
  • Technology Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of general command line tools, Internet browsers, remote assistance software, video conferencing software, Google Apps for Education, Office 365, and proficiently type 35+ words per minute.  An individual should also demonstrate understanding of IPv4, VLANs, routing, firewalls, and subnets.
