TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST (EDUCATION)
The Position
The Technology Support Specialist (Education) assists and participates in integrating educational and administrative technology into the school district; assists and participates in providing technical assistance, staff development, research and evaluation of technology equipment and programs, both academic and administrative, in the school district; and related work as required. The position is full-time, district-wide beginning ASAP. The salary for this position is in accordance with the UEV contract at $25.24 - $31.38 per hour.
Note: This is an open-competitive class position within the Albany County Department of Civil Service. As such, appointment to this position is provisional and will require the incumbent to take and pass the next available open-competitive examination for this title. The incumbent must be reachable (among the top three successful candidates) on the eligible list established after the examination.
Qualifications

Associates Degree and three (3) years of work experience (pre- or post-degree) in demonstrating the use of computers and software in an educational setting, including the support of computer hardware and software; or a Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year experience as stated above. Substitution: A Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Educational Technology or closely related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

Knowledge of personal computers and the peripheral equipment, modern information services terminology,
operating systems, software used in a school environment and current trends in educational technology and how it can be applied to school curriculum.

Ability to analyze computer hardware and software failure and take basic non-programming corrective action. Ability to monitor a Local Area Network (LAN). Ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and database software.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to work well with children at all levels.

Excellent health, work habits, and employment attendance history.

Good college record and references.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
